PHIL is the musical heart of Haarlem. In its monumental building on Klokhuisplein, music fills the air every day, from classical concerts to jazz, world music, and pop. The venue breathes history: in the 19th century, it began its life as a circus called Circus Gooilust. It was soon transformed into a concert and theatre hall, renamed Philharmonie. For decades, orchestras and choirs brought colour and sound to the city’s musical life. Today, PHIL is a vibrant meeting place where emerging talent and renowned artists come together — a place where sound takes centre stage, and where atmosphere, architecture, and history give every note an extra layer of meaning.
