Music
The New European Ensemble (NEuE) tells stories. Stories that reflect, challenge and deepen our understanding of human experience and the world around us, through the communicative power of new music.
NEuE frequently merges music with film, literature, theatre, dance and visual art. The ensemble has collaborated with figures and institutions such as Edward Snowden, Amnesty International, the International Criminal Court, War Child, Het Nationale Theater, Opera2Day and artist collectives including Nick Verstand and DeFrame.
Founded in 2009 in the Netherlands by dedicated musicians from across Europe, NEuE has built a reputation for imaginative programming and exceptional performances. Described as “fantastic” (NRC) and “outstanding” (de Volkskrant), the ensemble is regarded as one of the leading ensembles in the Netherlands. In 2019, NEuE received the prestigious Kersjes Prize.
Renowned composers including Mark Anthony Turnage, Anna Thorvaldsdóttir, José María Sánchez-Verdú, Guo Wenjing and Martijn Padding have written works for the ensemble. NEuE performs regularly in major concert halls and theatres across Europe and beyond, and is a frequent guest at international festivals. Alongside this, the ensemble actively supports emerging composers and performers through close ties with conservatoires in the Netherlands and abroad.
