“The world is on fire!”
Today the world around us feels chaotic and at times, horrible. We are witnessing multiple genocides on our screens, the rise of fascism, international law seems to have become meaningless and climate change feels inevitable. Art has always had a role in shaping society, culture and trends, and the other way around. What is the role of art in current times? How can one make art while other things feel so much more pressing?
For this conversation, Emma, Rebecca and Ahmad will talk about the importance of art, creation and all the feelings as well as the struggles that come with it.

Ahmad Mallah (Palestine/Syria/Netherlands)& Rebecca Lillich // Krüger (USA/Germany) are an Amsterdam based performance duo utilizing symbolic objects as containers to explore conflict and risk through multiple mediums. Intersecting the personal and political, the duo performs open symbols to generate reflection, introspection and connection.
Ahmad Mallah and & Rebecca Lillich // Krüger developed new performance and installation work during a residency period at Nieuwe Vide Artspace. Emma van Goor is an interdisciplinary artist, freelance curator, activist and community organiser active in Haarlem and Amsterdam. She currently works at Nieuwe Vide for Jongfem Collective, an intersectional feminist collective, as well as No Limits! Art Castle as a gallery host. At the moment she is fascinated by alchemy, quilting, witchcraft and the dunes. Aside from her artistic endeavours, she loves to pole dance, adores cats and period pieces, and has yet to sew or cut a straight line in her life. Perhaps that day will still come.
Jongfem Collectief is an artistic, intersectional activist collective from Haarlem that aims to make feminism and activism accessible to everyone. They are committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming space for people of all ages. Nieuwe Vide offers a space for (artistic, activist) collectives to create their own programs including that of Jongfem Collectief.
